Ford PCs Sneak Bill 100 Into Law

Thursday, April 14, 2022

Last night, without giving notice to all MPPs, the Ford PC government (with the blessing of the Liberals and the NDP) passed Bill 100 into law on a voice vote during an after hours extended evening sitting of the legislature.

This is an undemocratic way of passing an equally undemocratic piece of legislation.

You may remember that Bill 100 (click here to read it) makes permanent the emergency measures the Ontario PCs gave themselves under their latest state of emergency.

Belinda had previously debated against the legislation and then voted against it along with three other MPPs - Mike Schreiner, Roman Baber, and Lindsey Park. Click here to read our email about Bill 100 at second reading and to watch video of Belinda debating against the legislation. The combined effort of these MPPs helped raise awareness on the contents of the bill.

To avoid the same scrutiny at third reading, other MPPs were not given notice that Bill 100 would come up for third and final reading after hours - except for one, MPP Rick Nicholls.

Interestingly, Nicholls knew all about it!

Earlier in the day, another public moment of co-operation between the Sloan-Nicholls Team and the Ford PCs took place.

As we previously emailed, Belinda forced the Ford PCs to change their position on Bill 67 (infusing critical race theory in our schools).

During that exchange, the PC House Leader, on behalf of the government, came to the defence of Nicholls in response to Belinda simply stating the voting record of MPPs in favour of Bill 67.

Why would the PC House Leader defend an MPP from the Sloan-Nicholls Team, who are supposedly "fighting" the PCs?

And why would the PCs give notice to only one MPP - the MPP from the Sloan-Nicholls Team - that Bill 100 would be coming up for final debate after hours?

We will have more on that next time!

In the meantime, our platform - the New Blueprint - pledges to repeal all of the legislation the Ford PCs have put in place in response to COVID-19 and that includes a full repeal of Bill 100.

We will continue to challenge the left, balance the narrative, and change the course, even when the establishment parties pass legislation when they think no one is looking.

That's all for now and remember - the best is yet to come!
