Doug Ford’s $75 Million Anti-Trump Ad Backfires
Doug Ford’s PC government just made an international embarrassment, and as usual, Ontarians are footing the bill. Late Friday night, U.S. President Donald Trump announced he was ending all trade negotiations with Canada in direct response to Doug Ford’s $75 million taxpayer-funded ad campaign running across the United States.
The Ford PC Spending Spree is Holding Ontario Back
In May, the Ford PCs announced that they expect a $14.6 billion shortfall in next year's budget. In the seven years that the Ford PCs have been in power, we've only ever seen them outspend the Liberals that preceded them. At first, they tried blaming their deficit spending on COVID-19, but when they outlived that excuse, they quickly shifted the blame to Donald Trump.
Ontario: Still Closed for Business
Stellantis, one of the world’s leading car manufacturers, made headlines last week after announcing it would cancel plans to build Jeep vehicles in Brampton and instead produce them in the United States. This is happening despite the $15 billion corporate welfare package gifted to them in 2023. Needless to say, the Ford PCs' taxpayer-funded gamble fell short.
Ford PCs Outspend Quebec on Corporate Welfare
A new report from the Montreal Economic Institute (MEI) has confirmed what we’ve been saying for years: Ontario’s Progressive Conservatives have become the province’s new Liberals. Ontario now spends $9.5 billion every year on corporate subsidies. That’s more than any other province in Canada — even more than Quebec, long known for its addiction to corporate welfare.
