Another Bail Disaster, Another PC Excuse
Doug Ford wants you to believe he’s tough on crime.
But this past week, Peel Regional Police announced the largest drug bust in their department’s history—nearly half a tonne of cocaine seized before it could reach our communities.
The result?
Six out of the nine suspects are already back on the streets after receiving bail.
While crime surges across Ontario, especially in the GTA, Ontario’s PC government refuses to take responsibility. Instead, they blame the federal Liberals, pretending that only Ottawa can fix the problem.
But that’s not true—and the Ontario PCs know it.
Justice and prosecutions fall under provincial jurisdiction.
Even though the Criminal Code is federal, Ontario has the power to act. The Ford PCs could easily:
Pass legislation that limits bail eligibility in high-risk cases—just as other provinces are starting to do.
Direct Crown attorneys to oppose bail more aggressively in serious trafficking cases.
But instead of doing their job, the Ford PCs deflect. And Ontarians pay the price.
The same pattern is playing out in the opioid crisis.
The Ontario PC government imposed the longest lockdowns in North America, triggering the largest wave of opioid-related deaths in Ontario’s history.
In 2019, 1,559 Ontarians died from opioids.
By 2021-2022, that number rose to 2,795—about 8 deaths a day.
And just last year, 2,200 lives were lost—mostly to fentanyl.
While Ford now publicly declares drug injection sites a “failed policy,”his PC government continues to fund and keep 9 drug injection sites open across Ontario today.
The Ford PCs are great at press conferences and finger-pointing. But when it comes to real leadership—on crime, justice, or addiction—they’re nowhere to be found.
