The Ford PCs are worried.
Ahead of the Scarborough Southwest and York-Simcoe by-elections, the PCs are mired in self-inflicted scandals and falling approval ratings.
They are worried that small-c conservative voters are ready to send them a message.
How do we know this?
Just look at who they’ve called in to help!
The Only Time Derek Sloan Shows Up
Historically, Derek Sloan and his “Ontario Party” don’t bother with by-elections. They only surface right before general elections to sow confusion and fracture a unified blue opposition.
In fact, the only time Sloan has ever run candidates in a by-election was when Doug Ford handed him a lifeline.
After the Ontario Party was de-registered for failing to file financial returns in 2023, Doug Ford gave Sloan a gift by calling two by-elections at the exact same time (a defunct party must run two candidates simultaneously to re-register).
Sloan ran two candidates then for the sole purpose of getting his defunct paper party re-registered.
Other than that tactical favour from the PCs, Sloan’s party has never run by-election candidates.
Now, with the PCs feeling the heat of their own scandals, Sloan is suddenly running candidates again to protect the PC establishment from the New Blue Party.
But unfortunately for the corrupt Ontario PC Party and their operatives, we are here to stay.
While paper parties pop up when it serves the establishment’s survival, the New Blue Party has spent the last several years building riding associations, recruiting candidates, and standing up for Ontarians.
We aren’t going anywhere, and we aren’t letting the establishment control the narrative.
