From Wynne to Ford: What’s Changed?
When Doug Ford was elected in 2018, he promised to stand up for Ontarians and push back against Liberal overreach—both at Queen’s Park and in Ottawa.
But time and time again, the Ford PCs have abandoned that promise and aligned themselves with the federal Liberals.
In 2018, the Ontario PCs promised to fight carbon taxes. Once elected, they tried to trick Ontarians by repealing Wynne's cap and trade and announcing that they "eliminated the carbon tax"—all while cutting a deal with Trudeau and bringing in Ford’s own provincial carbon tax.
Under this deal, the Ford PC government agreed to collect the consumer carbon tax for Trudeau and introduce their own carbon tax on Ontario industry.
During COVID, the Ford PCs marched in lockstep with the Trudeau Liberals. In August 2021, the federal government announced vaccine passports for travel. Just weeks later, Ontario's PC government introduced its own version, restricting over a million Ontarians' access to restaurants, theatres, and even taxpayer-funded event spaces.
In 2025, the pattern continues. In response to U.S. tariffs, the Ford PCs have backed every move by the Carney Liberals.That means instead of delivering a desperately-needed balanced budget or tax relief to make Ontario competitive again, the Ford PCs are pouring billions of taxpayer dollars into corporate handouts.
The Doug Ford PCs were elected because Ontarians wanted a change from the McGuinty-Wynne Liberals—not replacement Liberals in blue.
