Happy Victoria Day! Our History Matters.
I hope you and your family are enjoying a beautiful Victoria Day weekend.
This is a time to reflect on our province’s rich history.
But across Ontario and Canada, a troubling trend has taken hold:
The erasure of our shared history to appease radical activists.
Under the Ford PC government we have seen increased incidents of "woke" activism, seeking to characterize our history as "systemically racist."
From statues being vandalized to historic names being stripped from public institutions, the Ontario PCs have stood by silently, or worse, played along.
In recent years:
The statue of Queen Victoria in Kitchener has been vandalized multiple times, including incidents in 2021, 2022, and as recently as June 2023, where it was splattered with red paint.
The Ford government ordered the boarding up of the Sir John A. Macdonald statue at Queen’s Park in 2020. To this day, it is still hidden behind plywood. In April, a Toronto resident was charged with mischief for spray-painting "Free John" on the wooden box.
The Sir John A. Macdonald statue in Kingston was removed from City Park in 2021, with no plans for its reinstallation.
The Toronto District School Board is reviewing school names associated with Canadian history to remove those tied to "colonialism."
In June 2021, protesters toppled and decapitated the statue of Egerton Ryerson on the Ryerson University campus in Toronto, throwing the head into the harbour. Ryerson University was renamed Toronto Metropolitan University in April 2022.
Last week, the Toronto subway system approved renaming Dundas Station to TMU Station.
This isn't how we learn from history — this is how we lose it.
The Ontario PCs have continued to govern like Liberals, refusing to push back against the "woke" agenda in our schools, public spaces, and institutions.
The New Blue Party was built to be different.
We believe Ontario’s history should be preserved and celebrated — not erased or rewritten.
We must stop "woke" activism in our schools starting with removing the political ideology of Critical Race Theory that wants to teach young Ontarians that our culture is systemically racist.
And we need the New Blue Party as a strong provincial option that will challenge the left's harmful ideological political narrative.
