Snouts in the Trough at Queen’s Park
The Ontario PC Party is corrupt and beyond redemption.
In the eight years since promising to reduce government waste, the PC backroom boys have been treating our tax dollars like a bottomless pit of corporate welfare.
The latest disaster is Metrolinx, the Government of Ontario-owned transportation agency synonymous with endless delays, skyrocketing costs, and gridlock.
This bloated bureau has become a black hole for billions of taxpayer dollars.
But it gets worse.
It was recently revealed that Metrolinx quietly settled a massive lawsuit with private developer Craft Kingsmen. This company sued the province for a staggering $500 million over “air rights” above downtown rail corridors, claiming they wanted to build massive high-rises there.
Metrolinx’s own lawyers admitted in legal filings that building towers there was “not physically possible” and that the half-billion-dollar claim was completely bogus.
But instead of fighting for the taxpayer in court, PC government-run Metrolinx folded behind closed doors and handed over a secret pile of money to Craft Kingsmen.
And who is the executive behind this development company? Carmine Nigro - a close personal friend of Doug Ford who sat at the premier’s head table at his daughter’s wedding. The PC cabinet also conveniently appointed Nigro to taxpayer-funded gigs as chair of the LCBO and the Ontario Place Corporation.
When asked exactly how many millions of tax dollars were handed over to his friend in this secret settlement, Doug Ford’s response was: “I don’t get involved in people’s business ... next question.”
The settlement is for taxpayer money!
The Ontario PCs are “progressive” - not conservative by any measure.
They love to tax and spend.
And they love using public infrastructure projects to enrich the clients of their lobbyist friends - operating in secrecy behind redacted contracts and backroom deals.
The PCs are continuing the exact same legacy of waste and deception that we saw under the McGuinty-Wynne Liberals.
The New Blue Party of Ontario was formed in large part to clean up the corporate welfare and end the backroom cronyism at Queen's Park.
We believe in a transparent government that respects the taxpayer and small businesses - not a government that acts as a bloated provincial arm of the federal Liberals.
