Rehire the Nurses and Offer Choice in Healthcare Services
Recently, Ontarians were reminded in the most heartbreaking way of just how strained our healthcare system has become.
A Burlington family lost their teenage son after waiting more than eight hours in an emergency room before seeing a doctor.
This tragedy is not an isolated case. Across the province, patients are facing overwhelmed hospitals, long delays for essential procedures, and limited options for care. Families should never have to wonder if their loved one will receive help in time.
The New Blue Party believes Ontario can and must do better. That’s why our members have proposed and voted on grassroots policies that directly address this crisis:
Policy 24: Rehire the Nurses
The New Blue Party supports rehiring the nurses and healthcare workers fired as a result of COVID-19 mandates.
These professionals are highly trained and badly needed. Rehiring them would strengthen staffing in our hospitals and reduce the workloads that drive many to leave the profession.
Policy 25: Offer Choice in Services
The New Blue Party supports clearing the backlog of procedures by offering choice in healthcare services including private healthcare options.
When families have more avenues to receive care, it relieves pressure on overcrowded hospitals and ensures patients get the help they need—when they need it.
Beyond these policies, we also know that reform means taking input directly from the physicians and nurses who provide care every day, not just hospital administrators. And most importantly, it means putting patients first, so tragedies caused by delays and shortages never happen again.
Ontario needs a responsive healthcare system that is focused on the sanctity of human life.
