"The Premier needed a favour"

Just before the 2025 election, a letter from Doug Ford ran in every Postmedia newspaper in Ontario.

Now a former CEO of Postmedia says he knows how it got there.

In a sworn declaration reported by The Trillium, Paul Godfrey alleges that Ford's then-chief of staff tied a three-year government contract for his son's company to a "favour" from Postmedia: publishing Doug Ford’s letter.

"I understood what this demand from the Premier's office meant," Godfrey said. "This was using political leverage and power over a small company to extract a benefit."

He says the letter ran. And after the Ontario PCs won, Godfrey alleges, Ford called to thank him and said it "couldn't have been done without Postmedia's help."

When politicians and newspaper executives are trading favours, who's left holding them to account?

This is how the political establishment works.

Those in power decide which stories you see, and they pay for it with your money.

The New Blue Party isn't part of that club. We don't get favours from the media. We rely on grassroots supporters like you to get the truth out.

We will have more to say on the political establishment and media's cozy relationship in the coming weeks.

Will you chip in $50, $100 or $200 today to help us break through the establishment's media machine?
