Why did Monte McNaughton suddenly quit being a PC MPP?
Why did Monte McNaughton—Doug Ford’s Labour Minister, responsible for handing out millions from the Skills Development Fund—suddenly resign from caucus in 2023?
Here’s what we’ve just learned.
In March 2023, Dentacloud, a dental brokerage, received more than $2 million from the Skills Development Fund.
At that time, Dentacloud’s CEO was working closely with Kate Bartz, McNaughton’s wife and president of the Canadian Federation of Dentistry.
Less than six months later, McNaughton abruptly resigned from cabinet and then quit politics altogether.
Why?
Dentacloud isn’t the only questionable recipient of Ford’s handouts.
Scale Hospitality received $17 million from the Skills Development Fund to train restaurant workers, despite submitting a late, low-scoring application. Records show one of the owners was close with a top aide to Doug Ford, then later hired his lobbying firm to secure even more funding. These restaurateurs have also donated over $10,000 to Ford’s PCs.
The Social Equality and Inclusion Centre also received $9.8 million to train workers for clubs run by Zlatko Starkovski, a longtime associate of Doug Ford.
Ontario families are struggling while small businesses drown in red tape.
Yet the Doug Ford PCs are using public money to reward well-connected insiders.
Does this sound like the everyday gravy train of politics?
Or is this corruption at its worst?
The Ford PCs and Trudeau-Carney Liberals are two sides of the same corrupt coin.
