Ford PCs Outspend Quebec on Corporate Welfare

A new report from the Montreal Economic Institute (MEI) has confirmed what we’ve been saying for years: Ontario’s Progressive Conservatives have become the province’s new Liberals.

According to the report, Ontario now spends $9.5 billion every year on corporate subsidies. That’s more than any other province in Canada — even more than Quebec, long known for its addiction to corporate welfare.

This spending spree started under Kathleen Wynne’s Liberals, and the PCs have only doubled down on it.

In 2013, Ontario handed out $2.9 billion in subsidies.

By 2017, that number jumped to $6.4 billion.

Today, under the Ford PCs, it’s $9.5 billion — a 182 percent increase since 2017.

Meanwhile, small businesses in Ontario continue to struggle with skyrocketing costs, overregulation, and one of the highest corporate tax rates in North America at 26.5 percent combined.

Instead of cutting red tape or provincial taxes, the Ontario PCs are picking winners and losers, handing billions to multinational corporations like Stellantis, GM, and Honda — companies that never needed handouts in the first place — for electric vehicle manufacturing that they have yet to show anything for.

The MEI found that if Ontario simply ended these taxpayer-funded subsidies, the province could cut the corporate tax rate from 11.5 percent to 7 percent without losing a single dollar in revenue.

That would make Ontario the most competitive province in Canada for job creators and entrepreneurs.

But that’s not the Ontario PC Party vision.

Doug Ford and his Progressives prefer crony capitalism and backroom deals, not cutting back on government spending for sustainable growth.

The New Blue Party believes in:

  • Ending corporate welfare - no more billion-dollar giveaways to big business.

  • Lowering taxes - for families, farmers, and small business owners.

  • Building a competitive Ontario economy - based on merit, not favours.

It’s time for a true blue alternative that puts everyday taxpayers and business owners ahead of lobbyists and well-connected corporations.
